Years ago our boys were big fans of the TV show, Zaboomafoo, which featured a leaping lemur named, Zaboo. Who knew that the star of that show was just down the road from where we are staying? Duke University has campus facilities all around Durham and the Duke Lemur Center is one of those.
It’s a clean, well maintained facility that houses several types of lemurs plus a loris and a couple aye-ayes — awesome creatures! Unfortunately, because they are nocturnal, so although we were able to see them in their night-time environment, it was difficult to get any good photos.
Zaboo was a Diademed Sifaka and I still don’t know how to pronounce it! Evidently one of the Kratt brothers attended Duke University and they filmed the TV show at the Lemur Center. Pretty cool! I had no idea.
The weather has heated up rapidly. You’d never know that 2 nights ago it was 37 degrees (at night) yet it was 88 degrees today. At least the humidity hasn’t arrived…yet!
Overall it was a great science field trip for the whole family for only $35, and the docent was fantastic.
We learned a lot!
