More Fun in Delaware

Divagirl and I have spent several days now with our friends while Jason worked at home and the boys worked on their lessons. Yesterday Jennifer took us to Amish country. We went to an Orchard and got some delicious apple cider doughnuts and the girls played on tire swings shaped like sea horses. They had a blast. Then we went to an all-purpose general store and enjoyed looking around; there was so much to look at and explore! My favorite was seeing the simple clothes hung perfectly ordered on the clotheslines to dry.

Flight: It’s Just a Simulation!

It just so happens that our friend Greg is a private pilot, and when he’s not flying CEO’s around the country, he teaches aviation training at Flight Safety International—which happened to be located at the airport just down the road from where we were staying. He offered to show us around the hangar that’s home to the airplane he flies, as well as the simulation systems he uses to teach, and we jumped at the chance. Considering the price one usually has to pay to book time on one of the simulators, we felt pretty fortunate to have after-hours access all to ourselves.

Delaware

After passing through Maryland we arrived in Delaware; a new sticker to add to our state map. We ended up leaving a day late because the night before we were planning on leaving we noticed the brakes on our Saturn acting funny. We were able to take it in to a shop in Woodbridge and after many hours they fixed the brakes, a hydraulic leak and a tire that was beginning to bulge. By that time we would hit DC traffic if we tried to head out. DC traffic is not fun. So we opted to stay another night.

Central Carolina Classic

When we were planning our trip to North Carolina I checked out the nearby rinks and saw that one was having a USFS skating competition while we were planning on being there and that I had one day left to register. Done! It doesn’t usually work out so nicely. The skating calender runs from June 30th to June 30th, so this will be my last competition for the year. I’m hoping to be ready for the ISI Adult Nationals which are in October, being held in San Francisco this year.

I’ve never had any friends come to see me skate before so I was super excited to have my friend, Willow, from high school, who I hadn’t seen in 20 years, asked if she could come watch me skate. Yay!

After the events were posted I knew that I was the only skater in each of my events so I wasn’t nervous at all for the competition, to me it was just an exhibition. But I was excited to see my old friend!

Longboards and Mother’s Day

Mr. T has been saving up for various “wants” and decided to move “longboard” to the top of the list. I took him out to 2 different places, one in Durham and the other in Raleigh. He had a pretty good idea of what he was looking for, but the salesman in Durham was about as helpful as a sea cucumber. The second place, Vertical Urge, was super helpful and Mr. T decided to take the plunge and buy the board.

He’s really excited and has been practicing a bit where he can on the park road. There are some serious speed bumps so he can’t go too far.
