Ice, Ice, Baby!

We’re in Lake Placid!

Home to the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics…and they don’t let you forget it :)

I am participating in an adult skating weekend here from Thursday through Sunday. All of your ice time is included and then you pay for group and private lessons separately.

We stayed at Cascade Acres on route 73 just over a mile out of town. Fabulous location. Amenities…sucked. This was mainly a mobile home park with an oval field for RVs. Touted as 30 amp power, we arrived after the office was closed to find a curiously shaped outlet that was most definitely NOT 30 amp. Because their hookups were on the wrong side for us, out sewer hose wouldn’t reach. We sped to the nearest hardware store to buy a connecting sewer hose and a 15 amp adapter 15 minutes before closing.

Southwoods RV Resort

Loved it!

This is a fantastic resort, with fantastic amenities and well manicured park grounds – a place we’d definitely visit again.

It is situated in Byron, NY just west of Rochester and an easy drive to Gates/Chili; there are very few RV parks near Rochester. Generally you are limited to this one west of Rochester or one in Canandaigua which is south east of Rochester.

Rochester Nostalgia Tour

This was one of our (my) busiest ports because I grew up here, went to college here and many of our friends settled here. We also used this extended stay as an opportunity to get some repairs done on both the Plum (Saturn) and Edelweiss (motorhome).

After spending most of a rainy morning holed up at a Tim Horton’s waiting for the Plum’s transmission diagnosis, we spent our first evening with my Aunt Diane, cousin Matt and his wife Marisa getting reaquainted over dinner at Jeremiah’s in Gates. Mr. S has discovered a love of ribs and this place did not disappoint him.
