West Virginia or Bust

We made it out of Massachusetts just as the rains came and had a nice cool travel day through Rhode Island and Connecticut. It only took 39 minutes to cut through Rhode Island, long enough to ponder the validity of its name since it is not an island nor even a peninsula. In keeping with the theme of New England it should’ve at least been named “New Rhode,” but I digress.

Layover in Plattekill

We were excited to see our friends in Vermont but having just done the drive from Lake Placid to PA we were not excited to retrace our route. We split the trip into two parts and stayed at the same KOA in Plattekill that we did last week when we visited Beacon. This time we stayed two nights.

The KOA was pretty full, probably since Independence Day was later that week and school’s out for the summer.

I was delighted to find an ice rink in Newburgh, NY only 10 miles from us and even more excited to find out there was a freestyle session I could attend. Score!

We did some laundry and then I went skating.

The ice rink had the best ice I think I’ve EVER skated on. And that’s saying a lot because I’ve skated at a lot of rinks. I met so many nice people and even though there were at least 12 skaters on the session everyone was very respectful. I had a really great skate and got to practice some of the skills I learned at Lake Placid.

Tomorrow we push forward to Vermont!

Cute Little Beacon

After surviving a jam packed skating weekend, it was time to head towards Pennsylvania for my Grandma’s birthday next weekend. Its a long trip from Lake Placid to Pittsburgh so I planned some stops along the way. First up we stopped at our first KOA campground, which was very nice. Apparently its the closest KOA to NYC. The weather had still been intermittent storms so we didn’t explore much. Besides, we weren’t there to enjoy the stay, we were there to see my friend Shelly!

Kanona Boondocking

Jason drove straight through from NJ to Kanona, NY. Due to a navigational error on my part, we ended up on PA rt 487 which was a really bad place to be with a motorhome! Anyone see the movie RV with Robin Williams? Well that seemed to be how our day was going.

It started poorly with a black tank dumping malfunction that resulted in several trash bags and a shower…Jason prefers not to talk about it. Ever again.
