ISI Adult Championships

Here is the culmination of the hard work of the last few months.

ISI Adult National Championships at Yerba Buena Skating Rink in San Francisco, California. I only entered 2 events, but some others I met entered up to 19 events! WHOA. My family was there to support me and watch me skate. I also got to see some friends from Florida that I used to skate with in Tampa. The whole event was pretty low-key, not like USFS competitions at all.

Southern Oregon

We headed to the Rogue River Valley in southern Oregon and stayed at the Holiday RV Park in Phoenix, between Medford and Ashland. We’d heard how beautiful the area was and were excited to visit Crater Lake and get to know the area.

What we didn’t count on was having the weather change abruptly and ending up with rain, fog and cloud inversions :(

Everyone we talked to told us how unusual the weather was and how they hadn’t had any rain for 4 months. Yep, we have good timing. It also meant that seeing Crater Lake was out of the question since there is zero visibility on cloudy days. Another trip I guess.

Priest River, Idaho

Once again, we’ve been so busy living life, we haven’t found time to write about it :) We do have a bunch of posts lined up, so prepare for a small barrage as we play catch-up!

After a 5-day trek, we made it to Idaho!

Jason’s sister and her family were visiting from Oregon when we arrived, so we lucked out and got to see them too before they left. Divagirl and her cousins were able to have fun together, at least for a couple days.

We planned to visit Jason’s parents for 3 weeks, which provided some nice downtime for everyone. We were able to park Edelweiss on their property, and have water and electrical hookups, although we spent most of our time inside their house playing games, doing school work and just plain relaxing. The kids loved spending time at Nana and Grandpa’s house :)

Full Circle: Our Return to Ohio

We went back, full circle, to where our little family started. We moved to Columbus after marriage back in 1996.

Jason worked as a Design Engineer for Honda R&D and I worked for an architectural firm downtown.

Mr T was born in Westerville, OH and we got to drive through the town. It hasn’t changed much; it is still as cute as ever. The areas where we used to live have grown tremendously! It was hard to recognize the area. Our first house had been repainted and the cul-de-sac still looked nice but the rest of the neighborhood really went downhill. Such a shame.

Layover in Plattekill

We were excited to see our friends in Vermont but having just done the drive from Lake Placid to PA we were not excited to retrace our route. We split the trip into two parts and stayed at the same KOA in Plattekill that we did last week when we visited Beacon. This time we stayed two nights.

The KOA was pretty full, probably since Independence Day was later that week and school’s out for the summer.

I was delighted to find an ice rink in Newburgh, NY only 10 miles from us and even more excited to find out there was a freestyle session I could attend. Score!

We did some laundry and then I went skating.

The ice rink had the best ice I think I’ve EVER skated on. And that’s saying a lot because I’ve skated at a lot of rinks. I met so many nice people and even though there were at least 12 skaters on the session everyone was very respectful. I had a really great skate and got to practice some of the skills I learned at Lake Placid.

Tomorrow we push forward to Vermont!
